5. Letter of Intent (LOI)

Many of our grants require that you submit a letter of intent (LOI) before applying (use this table to identify which grants require one). We use the LOI as a preliminary review to verify that your project complies with HumanitiesAR and NEH guidelines prior to the application stage. The following items are reviewed in the LOI:

  • tax status and EIN
  • UEI status
  • project description
  • preliminary budget

Which Grants Require and LOI

Grants that require an LOI:

  • Major Grants
  • Mini Grants
  • Black History and Culture Grants
  • Museum Collections and Resource Grant

Grants that do not require an LOI:

  • REACH Grants
  • Arkansas State Park Field Trip Grants
  • Helen T. Leigh Museum Field Trip Grants

What to Expect

  1. To access a grant’s LOI:
    • Log in to Foundant
    • Click “Apply” on the grant of interest
    • Follow directions to the LOI
  2. LOIs are due by 11:59 PM the date of the deadline. Any submission made after the deadline will not be considered.
  3. During the review stage, our staff will check for compliance with HumanitiesAR and NEH guidelines. If we need more information or clarification, we’ll contact the project director.

If Approved: If the LOI is approved, the project director will receive notification via Foundant. The project director can then move forward to filling out the grant application.

If Denied: If the LOI is denied, the project director will receive information about the reason via Foundant.
