1. Determine if you qualify. Humanities scholars:

    • Have expertise in a humanities subject area.
    • Have a master’s or doctoral degree
    • Are often employed by colleges and universities, elementary and secondary schools, museums, libraries, historical societies or similar organizations and institutions.
    • Have expertise in local community history and historical events acquired through first-hand knowledge or other means.
    • Are recognized by other scholars as humanities subject-area authorities.

Humanities scholars have appropriate training and experience in a humanities field of study and are recognized by other experts as authorities in a particular humanities subject.

They usually have master’s or doctoral degrees and may be employed by colleges, universities, museums, elementary and secondary schools, libraries, historical societies, government agencies, etc.

Some humanities scholars have become experts through informal means and work independently. They may be tradition bearers and local community historians.

What is the role of humanities scholars in HumanitiesAR-funded projects?
Humanities scholars must be involved in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects funded by HumanitiesAR.

At the beginning of the planning stage. Humanities scholars must be involved in planning, implementing, and evaluating the project.

Will scholars charge a fee?
It’s up to each scholar. Some scholars may request honorarium, and/or compensation for mileage and lodging, while others won’t charge fees.

Does HumanitiesAR cover scholars’ fees?
Grant recipients may use grant funds to cover mileage, lodging, and up to $750 in honorarium. These expenses should be included in the budget summary and explained in the budget narrative of the grant application.
