Taking What They Can Carry

Throughout Arkansas’s history, racial and ethnic groups have been forcibly displaced as a result of racism and hate. Focusing on a number of these historical events, Taking What They Can Carry: Forced Migration in Arkansas, examines what happened, the aftermath, and how these events shaped the affected communities. Additional resources, links, and companion lesson plans for K-12 teachers can be found linked to the map. This program is funded by the United We Stand Initiative through the National Endowment for the Humanities.
